A bridge is a dental procedure that can replace one or more missing teeth.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed and long-lasting replacement for missing teeth. A bridge is made up of one or more prosthetic teeth held in place by healthy adjacent teeth. Bridges are custom-made to match the appearance of your existing natural teeth. You can enjoy normal eating, confident speech and a full, confident smile.

Your dentist will advise you on the most appropriate treatment options if you have missing teeth. A dental bridge may be considered if the teeth on either side of the gap are in good condition.

What is the procedure for a dental bridge?

If a dental bridge is right for you, the treatment is generally spread over two appointments. The dentist will begin by preparing the teeth that will support the bridge. This often includes the fitting of dental crowns.

Impressions of your teeth will then be taken by the dentist. The dental laboratory will use the impressions to custom make the replacement tooth. Being a natural tooth colour, porcelain is a popular choice. During your next visit, your permanent bridge will be set in place.

How long can a bridge last?

Dental bridges are designed to be a long-lasting replacement for missing teeth. With a regular dental regime, they can last more than 10 years.  Your dentist will explain how best to take care of your bridge after your treatment.
